Transparency about our use of artificial intelligence

This is a translation for convenience. The German version is the legally binding one — you find it under the language switch at the top.

We use artificial intelligence (AI) as a supporting tool when creating, editing and improving content and digital offerings.

How we use AI

AI can support us in particular with researching and structuring topics, with writing and revising drafts, and with creating and editing illustrations, graphics, images and other visual elements.

Beyond that, we may use AI to analyse, categorise and prepare information, and to improve our digital offerings and processes.

For us, AI is a tool — responsibility for what we publish stays with us.

Editorial content

AI may support various steps when editorial content is produced. Content is reviewed, edited or approved editorially as far as the content in question requires.

Editorial responsibility for what we publish rests with us and is not delegated to an AI system.

The karate wiki

The entries of the karate wiki were written with the support of AI and are reviewed before publication. A version only becomes visible once a person has approved it.

Suggestions from instructors take the same route. What is in the app has been read by someone.

Images, graphics and illustrations

Our websites and publications may use images, graphics and illustrations that were created or edited fully or partly with AI.

For symbolic images and illustrations in particular, AI may serve to depict topics and situations visually. Such depictions do not necessarily show real people, clubs, places or events that actually took place.

Individual content is labelled separately where the law requires it. This applies in particular to artificially generated or manipulated content whose presentation could give the impression that a real person, place or event is being reproduced authentically when this is not the case.

AI and data protection

When using AI we make sure that our users’ personal data is processed only within the applicable data protection rules and only on an appropriate legal basis.

No AI runs inside the app itself: no member, training or grading data is passed to an AI system. Further information is in our privacy policy.

Responsibility and transparency

We understand AI as a tool that supports human work. Using AI changes nothing about our responsibility for what we publish.

We review how we handle AI regularly and adapt our processes and transparency measures to new technical developments and legal requirements — in particular the provisions of the European AI Regulation (EU AI Act).
